Description
Thwaites, an ecclesiastical district in Millom parish,, Cumberland, near Green Road station on the Furness railway. Post town and money order office, Millom; telegraph office, Broughton-in-Furness. The parish comprises the hamlets of Hall Thwaites, Duddon Bridge, and Lady Hall. Population, 335. Thwaites forms a ward of Millom parish council, to which it sends three members. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Carlisle; gross value, £138 with residence. The present church was erected near the site of an older one, and is in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, S aisle, S porch, and bell gable. There are a woollen manufactory and dyeworks, an endowed school erected in 1857,. and various charities.
