Description
Wasdale, Nether, a village, a township, and a chapelry in St Bees parish, Cumberland, on the river Irt, comprising the lower part of Wasdale, 6 1/2 miles E of Seascale railway station. The village has two good inns, and furnishes boats for excursions on Wast Water. Post town, Carnforth; money order and telegraph office, Gosforth. Acreage of township, 8273 of land and 301 of water; population, 156. Lord Leconfield is lord of the manor. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Carlisle; net value, £148 with residence. Patrons, the parishioners. The church is a small ancient building in mixed styles, consisting of chancel, nave, one aisle, and a bell gable.
