Description
Withiel, a parish in Cornwall, 5 1/2 miles from Wadebridge station on the L. & S.W.R., and 6 from Bodmin station on the G.W.R. It has a post office under Bodmin; money order and telegraph office, Roche. Acreage, 3091; population, 338. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The manor was known at Domesday as Berneves, and belonged for several centuries to Bodmin Priory. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Truro; gross value, £340 with residence. The church is a building of stone and granite in the Perpendicular style, with an embattled tower. There are Wesleyan and Bible Christian chapels.
