Description
Lewannick, a village and parish in Cornwall. The village stands on the river Inny, 5 miles SW of Launceston station on the G.W.R. and L. & S.W.R. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Launceston. Acreage of parish, 4065; population, 531. Trelaske House is the seat of the Archer family. Good building stone, a very hard slate stone, and a fine vari-coloured freestone, for mantelpieces and ornamental work, are quarried. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Truro; net value, £132 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is Early English, not in good condition, has a lofty pinnacled tower, and contains monuments of the Lowers and the Archers. A chapel to Minster Priory was formerly at Pollyfont. There are Wesleyan and Bible Christian chapels. The remains of a Danish encampment are in this parish, and several wells and springs.
