Whitegate, Cheshire

Description
Whitegate, a village and a parish in Cheshire. The village stands on the river Weaver, 2 miles S by W of Hartford station on the L. & N.W.R., and 4 SW of Northwich. It is sometimes called Newchurch, and has a post office under Northwich; money order and telegraph office, Over. The parish comprises Martin township and parts of Over and Weaverham. Population, 1519. There is a parish council consisting of nine members. Vale Royal, which is separately noticed, is the seat of Lord Delamere. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chester; net value, £278 with residence. Patron, Lord Delamere. The church was built in 1726 on the site of the previous church, and was restored in 1875.
