Description
Waverton, a township and a parish in Cheshire. The township lies on the Shropshire Union Canal, 4 miles SE of Chester, and has a station on the Chester and the Crewe section of the L. & N.W.R., and a post office under Chester; money order and telegraph office, Christleton. Acreage, 1186; population, 371. The parish contains also Hatton township, and comprises 2651 acres; population of the civil parish, 514; of the ecclesiastical, 507. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. Waverton Manor belongs to the Duke of Westminster. There are a steam flour-mill, a coal wharf, and a quarry. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chester; net value, £220 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Chester. The church is Perpendicular, and was restored in 1888. There is a Presbyterian chapel.
