Warburton, Cheshire

Description
Warburton, a township and a parish in Cheshire, on the rivers Mersey and Bollin, adjacent to Heatley and Warburton station on the L. & N.W.R., and 5 miles WNW of Altrincham. It has a post office under Warrington; money order office, Heatley Heath; telegraph office, Lymm. Acreage, 1872; population, 416. There is a parish council consisting of eight members. There is an extensive flour-mill. An iron bridge of one arch crosses the Mersey. A Premonstratensian priory anciently stood here, and was annexed in 1271 to Cockersand Abbey. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chester; net value, £278 with residence. The old church is an ancient timber edifice, and is now only used for week-day services and funerals. The new church was built in 1885 in the Perpendicular style.
