Description
Taxal, a township and a parish in Cheshire, 1 1/4 mile S by W of Whaley Bridge station on the L. & N.W.R., and 7 1/2 miles NE of Macclesfield. Post town, Stockport; money order and telegraph office, Whaley Bridge. The township comprises 3799 acres; population, 308. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. Erwood Hall is the chief residence. The parish includes also the township of Yeardsley-cum-Whaley, and comprises 5122 acres; population, 1543. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Chester; gross value, £176 with residence. The church, excepting the tower, was rebuilt in 1825, and was restored in 1889.
