Rowton, Cheshire

Rowton, a village and a township in Christleton parish, Cheshire, on the Shropshire Union Canal, 3 1/2 miles SE by E of Chester. Post town, Chester; money order and telegraph office, Christleton. Acreage, 591; population, 181. Rowton Hall and Rowton Grange are the chief residences. Rowton Moor was the scene of an important battle in 1645 between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
