Rainow, a village, a township, and an ecclesiastical parish in Prestbury parish, Cheshire. The village stands 3 miles NE of Macclesfield, and is much scattered. It has a post and money order office under Macclesfield; telegraph office, Bollington. The township includes Haugh Hole and Kerridge Edge, and comprises 5744 acres; population, 1255. There is a parish council consisting of twelve members. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1846; population, 1192. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chester; gross value, £171. Patron, the Vicar of Prestbury. The church is modern. There is a Wesleyan chapel and a meeting-house for the Society of Friends.
