Description
Cheveley,/b>, a village and a parish in Cambridgeshire. The parish lies on the verge of the county, 3 1/4 miles SE of Newmarket station on the G.E.R., and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Newmarket. Acreage, 2559 ; population, 610. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ely; net yearly value, £580 with residence. The church is an ancient cruciform building in the Early English style. There is a small Congregational chapel. Cheveley Park, the property of the Duke of Rutland, is a well-timbered domain of about 300 acres, surrounded by a lofty brick wall. The house, which was built in 1632, was formerly of considerable size. Banstead manor, another country residence, is the property of the Slaters.
