Free Phillimore Marriage Records

We have hundreds of parish registers and other BMD transcripts in our collection, and are working to put them all online. Many of these books are from the Phillimore Marriages series.

William Phillimore Watts Stiff was born in Nottingham on 27th November, 1853, the son of Dr. William Phillimore Stiff, M.B., and his wife Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Benjamin Watts of Brigden Hall, Salop. He assumed the surname of Phillimore with his father in 1873, to commemorate his descent from the Phillimore's of Cam in Gloucestershire, where the family had resided since the 16th century. For most of his life he devoted himself to the study of genealogy and was a prolific publisher and editor, founding the publishing business of Phillimore & co. in 1897.

Below is a list of the parishes covered by the volumes of Phillimore Marriages series we already have available, totally free. We have just launched another database containing complete parish registers and a list of those included so far can be found on the parish registers page. Alternatively, you can see what we have on the parish register search page.

A project has been initiated to index all of these volumes in order that you may easily find the records you require. This is an arduous task and will take a while to complete, so please bear with us.

The vast majority of the parishes below have not been indexed yet, but those that show (I) after the parish name have been. A list of the volumes that have been indexed can be found on the main search engine page. In addition, we have included the volume number in which the parish appears in brackets e.g. (v10).

We suggest you bookmark this page as we will be adding many more parishes in due course.
There are now over 500 parishes included.

We would be delighted to hear what you think of this new facility. Please let us know.
